CDL Backing Vehicle Rental and Familiarization in Texas
Apply existing backing skills to a rented CDL vehicle in Texas. Up to 30 minutes per day Monday–Wednesday, 90 minutes total, $125 per day.
Apply your backing skills to the vehicle’s handling
Truck wheelbase, steering response, trailer length and mirror views can differ from equipment you have used before. The backing rental and familiarization service gives customers with previously acquired skills limited vehicle time in a marked backing environment. Customers independently operate the vehicle using those skills. The paid service does not teach, coach or demonstrate beginner backing maneuvers.
Have these vehicle questions ready
- Mirror positions and the vehicle’s dimensions
- Steering response and trailer behavior on the particular equipment
- The vehicle configuration you intend to use at your test
Published backing schedule and fee

Backing familiarization and ELDT range are different
A short familiarization session helps you become accustomed to rented equipment. Applicable ELDT range activity is a separate federal training component with its own curriculum, assessment and documentation. Tell us your current ability and licensing goal so you can discuss the appropriate options.
Questions before you arrange service
Is this beginner backing instruction?
No. Paid backing familiarization is limited vehicle access for independently applying skills you already have. Discuss any separate applicable ELDT range needs before booking.

What changes when the trailer is shorter?
A different trailer or wheelbase changes the response you see in your mirrors. Tell us what you can already back safely, where you normally set up and which maneuver you want to compare. We can check whether limited time with our equipment fits that need.

A self-directed alternative to a traditional CDL school
Get Your CDL Quick offers vehicle rental and limited vehicle familiarization for customers who arrive with previously acquired knowledge and skills from experience or independent self-study. This service model is intended as an alternative to a traditional CDL school program. The paid rental and familiarization services do not provide a comprehensive beginner curriculum or classroom instruction. Customers prepare and progress according to their existing ability.
Required FMCSA ELDT behind-the-wheel training is a separate, proficiency-based activity. Describing the business as an alternative to a school does not establish its regulatory status.
Official sources for independent review
Our inspection and licensing reference information draws on the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook, DL-7C, revised March 2026; the Commercial Driver’s License Manual Supplement for Modernized Version, DL-7CM, version September 9, 2022; and published FMCSA guidance and federal regulations. DL-7C and DL-7CM are publication identifiers, not statute numbers.
We compile and organize references to make independent review easier. The official agencies establish the licensing and inspection standards. Company-produced videos, narration, checklists and review aids explain these topics; they are not publications issued by Texas DPS or FMCSA. The official sources can be read directly at no charge. Use current Texas DPS instructions when an older supplement differs from the current testing system.
Manual editions, publisher rights and legal references
The modernized supplement is an AAMVA publication hosted by Texas DPS. Public availability does not make every publication public domain. Publisher copyrights and use restrictions still apply. Texas DPS identifies its handbook for personal use and restricts commercial sales or reproduction. These source notices do not grant reproduction rights or imply agency endorsement.

Identifying public sources does not itself establish a regulatory approval or exemption. Texas DPS determines licensing and test results. Separate applicable ELDT obligations remain in effect.
What people mean by “Texas DPS backing”
Backing is part of the CDL basic vehicle-control skills test. The modernized Texas DPS handbook describes four exercises: forward stop, straight-line backing, forward offset tracking and reverse offset backing. Review the current official diagrams and follow the examiner's instructions for your vehicle and test location.
Do not assume an older parallel-parking or alley-dock practice video describes your scheduled test. Check the current Texas CDL handbook, Section 12 before planning independent practice.
Three different reasons to ask about backing
- Vehicle familiarization: you already have the skills and want limited, self-directed time with the selected vehicle. Our published service is up to 30 minutes per day Monday–Wednesday, up to 90 minutes total, at $125 per day or $375 for all three sessions.
- ELDT range training: you need the applicable federal curriculum, assessment and completion record. Discuss our separate ELDT range and road activity.
- DPS testing: you need the licensing authority to evaluate your skills. A familiarization booking does not reserve or pass a DPS test.
Bring the equipment details, not just a test date
Tell us your license class, current permit, existing backing experience, and whether you intend to test in a tractor-trailer, straight truck or bus. Mirror views and vehicle response differ. Our paid familiarization service provides vehicle access for applying existing skills; it does not include beginner maneuver instruction.
We serve customers traveling from Dallas and communities within about 100 miles of Dallas, with in-person activity in Texas. Call (469) 332-7188 to discuss the vehicle and available dates.
Real customer experiences and study resources
Our public customer videos share individual test-day experiences. Customer Resources also provides the study materials included with your access. Customer stories are not maneuver demonstrations or guarantees of a passing score.
